Such is the life of Joe...
Are you my friend?
Reggaefest 2003. BUST! I should've ended my Reggaefests on a high note last year, but I decided to go this year. Did I have fun? Well, it was better than sitting at home or working. Was it the funnest time ever? No way...best Reggaefest had to be last year. Why did it suck? First, it didn't seem like anyone was into it. It didn't seem as hype as last year. But the main reason was that not everyone was there...or it was hard to find someone you knew there. Last year we had a whole section all to ourselves with all our friends just kicking it and chilling. This year, I saw only a handful of friends and a bunch of strangers. A lot of cute strangers...but still strangers.
So acquaintance or friend? I swear, this Friendster.com thing is a good thing and a bad thing. It keeps me entertained at work and at home, and it has potential for me to get in contact with old friends I've lost contact with. But what happens when an acquaintance thinks you're a friend and wants you to add them to their list. We're friends? Really? I didn't know that!? Sure I feel bad and feel like I have to add them or else I'll hurt their feelings. My main friends are all on myfamily.com, The Crew III, CBC, JC Crew, Watch Out Now Family, and a handful of others and yeah, I may not keep in touch or talk to some people in those groups consistantly, I still consider them my real freinds. But on the other hand, if you aren't in the previously mentioned groups and if I only talk to you once a year in passing...I'm not your friend....I'm just an acquaintance. Just because we were in Kaba together, or just because I went to the same school with you doesn't make me your friend. I think a friend is someone you can just call up and hang out with, out of the blue. Is this directed at anyone in particular??? Not really, but if you look at my friendster.com friends, I think it's a little obvious which people are friends and which are acquaintances. If you're reading this blog I pretty much consider you my friend (hopefully only my friends know about my site)...I'm just talking about those acquaintances who aren't in any of the groups I previously mentioned. Since they consider me friends, i really hope they keep in touch and act like ones now. Such is the life of Joe....
Aloe Vera
I've never been this sunburnt in my life! My back is still freaking burning and hurting! I have to sleep on my side or my freaking stomach now because my back hurts (actually it itches and is annoying more than it hurts). I should've known better than go shirtless for probably 10 hours in the sun (I was at the beach from 10:30 and the sun goes down around 8:00???). I had my wifebeater with me but I would rather have a nice even burn than have another freaking "wifebeater tan" (I've had the last one for like 1 year!!!!). I had a long sleeve shirt, but it was way too hot to wear that. So there you have it....I'm burned. Oh well....just please don't slap me on the back the next time you see me.
One more day until Reggaefest. I seriously can't wait That's the perfect way to end the work week. But I'm really not hyping it up too much. Why not? Because I don't really know who's gonna be out there....everyone has work and stuff, hopefully they'll all meet up after work. Plus I know I'm gonna feel old and I'm not really gonna know that many people there. I'll be the old guy kicking it up at the pub drinking a couple pitchers of beer with the other people in the real world. Good memories of Reggaefest: 1999 kicking it and drinking with Care for most of the day, 2000 kicking it with bio peeps, Mary and Lesley, "Tom Green" at the pub with the roomies and drunk at the Kaba End of The Year Banquet, 2001 Holla Ed "ED! ED! ED! ED!" , 2002 kicking it up at the pub and watching the Lakers kick ass, 2003? hopefully the best one ever. Such is the life of Joe...
I'm Freaking Sunburnt!!!
You know you're freaking sunburnt when you hop in the shower and start scrubbing your skin and it freaking hurts like hell. You know you're REALLY sunburnt when your scalp gets sunburt too! Damn! I guess that's what I get for being at the beach for almost 12 hours. I guess that's what I get for not reapplying sunblock after getting out of the water. I guess, that's what I get when I can't reach certain parts of my back to cover with sunblock.
So on Monday to celebrate the day off because of Memorial Day I went to Huntington Beach to relax, eat, chill, and frolick with good friends. Ryan and I were the first ones there at 10:30 and claimed a spot near the pier. Too bad that we later realized we needed to get a fire pit...and the fire pit is about probably 1 mile down the beach!!!! We hiked it the mile to the fire pits with our arms full of chips and drinks and we luckily got a fire pit after some searching. The weather didn't disappoint me at all. It was cloudy and kinda cool and crisp in Irvine when we left, but when we got to Huntington it was so sunny and hot. It was an awesome time for a beach day. The day was spent just kicking it with good friends, eating, joking around, playing in the water (which was freaking freezing), throwing around the football, and chilling around a bonfire just talking and roasting marshmallows. Good times.
So, next time I'm at the beach for 12 hours...remind me to reapply sunblock every 2 hours or so. Yeah, then I won't be in so much pain right now. Man, work is gonna be fun!!!! I can't wait!!!! I can't wait until Friday, that is!!! Reggaefest!!! Such is the life of Joe...
Nothing To Do
Dude, I always complain that there's nothing to do, but when something does come up, I don't do it. Take Friday night for example. I had 2 opportunities to go out that night but what did I do? I chose to sit on my ass in bed watching "While You Were Out" (no, I wasn't watching "Lizzie McGuire" when you guys called me, I was watching "While You Were Out"...big difference). First Theda and her friends were going to some bar "Rocking Tacos?" in Fullerton and she invited me to go. Then later on that night Tommy and Cile went to "Pierce Street Annex" on 17th to meet up with some friends there. My excuse for not going out both times was that I was feeling a little sick (i've been coughing for like 3 days now, ever since I slept with wet hair and the window open) and that I was lazy and that it was late (more so against going to Pierce Street since it was like 11:00 when they left to go). Yeah, I know I freaking sound like an old man. So next time something comes up and someone asks me to go somewhere...remind me to say that I'll go....remind me that I'll regret staying at home. Yes'm. Thanks
So Saturday was cool. Went to eat at Outback for Jhoette's going away dinner with all the "LA People". Good times, and great steak....mmmmmm. I'm not really a steak guy, but the steak there at Outback that I ordered was so freaking good. MMmmm...my mouth is watering just thinking about it. Afterwards we went to some graduation party or something at Hollywood Billards? That place is pretty dope. Pool tables all around, a bar downstairs where people were singing karaoke, a bar upstairs where people were dancing and the DJ was spinning. Right when we got there they played the 2 songs that I hate..."In Da Club" by 50 Cent, and that one Wayne Wonder song. HA! I hated it! Good thing they played that early in the night so I wouldn't have to worry about hearing those songs again. So I guess it was a graduation party for someone from CSUN...needless to say, I knew no one (except for Tricia who was there). It's pretty weird being the outsiders in a party. Everyone else knew everyone else, but we were just sitting there at our own spot drinking. HA! Good times though.
Well, this freaking weather is pissing me off. Thursday and Friday were both freaking hot...but I didnt' get to enjoy the day since I was working. I couldn't wait for the weekend when I could enjoy the weather. But its been freaking cloudy and overcast and cool outside! What the hell!!!!??? It freaking better be sunny and beach weather on Monday or I'll be pissed off. You know what sucks? The hottest day this week is on Tuesday...the day we all (well, most of us) go back to work. DAMMIT!!! Such is the life of Joe...
Friday, May 21, 1999
I have absolutely nothing to talk about at all. That's how exciting my life is. But I still want to give you guys something to read while you're all slaving away at work. So every now and then when I have nothing to post at all, I'll post something up from my 'journal' that I've been keeping since '98? It's not really a diary, its just a journal...not so much my thoughts, but more of what I did. Well, here goes:
Friday, May 21, 1999 Junior Year. What did I do that day? I had a midterm in some class, I guess that there was a party at May's in San Marco, then one at Joyce and Tricia's house (and Jevon's but I didn't know him back then), then went and kicked it at Joe De Los's apartment at Turtle Rock Vista. Damn, it seems like I was a party animal...but that's just the life of a college student. Man, I miss school.
- missed opportuniites -
"M was there and she dragged me over to the kitchen and just started to talk....M pulled me to the dance floor and we just started to dance but I got annoyed because it was way too crowded..."
Man, I've always wondered if "M" was into me. I wonder what she's up to right now? I haven't seen that girl in like a year or so. Hmmmm....
"It was a very fun night. I loved it but I had a lot of missed opportunities." Such is the life of Joe....
I Hate That Guy
What a weekend. More specifically, what a Saturday. Saturday was a long but very fun day. It started out early in the morning with Tommy and I heading down to San Diego's Del Mar Fairgrounds, for Elaine's (girlfriend's) graduation from Cal. State San Marcos. It was really good seeing her again, and seeing her so happy and so relieved that she graduated. I also finally got to meet her fiance. It was also good seeing Karen again and Nomar! I haven't seen that guy in the longest time. Karen just joked around that we don't see each other except every year during graduation time....and it's true...we really have to change that. I also saw one of the coolest things in the world while at graduation. There was this MILF walking ahead of us in this white printed dress....but she should've really been wearing a slip underneath it. Because I could totally see her thong through the dress. Awesome! That was probably the highlight of the day! HA!
We got home in the afternoon and I just crashed for the afternoon. Freaking going to graduation is always so tiring. I woke up in time to go to O-Sushi in Brea for Joyce and Tricia's birthday celebration there. One of the funner nights that I've had in a long time. Why was it fun? It was fun because I got to kick it with a lot of friends that I don't see enough of. Plus there were hot girls there.....too bad someone's cousin had to leave so early in the night. Oh yeah, and too bad that she has a boyfriend. You know what I'm talking about! HA! The only bad thing about the night was the crowded ass upper floor in front of the bar. Why in the world didn't they open up the downstairs like they did last time?
And yes, I hate that guy. I just thinking about him just made me want to freaking hit him. Why do I hate him? Because he's a cocky ass bitch. Yeah, he can back it up and he's successful, and that's probably even more reason why I hate that guy. Such is the life of Joe...
Huh?!
Just watched the Matrix Reloaded at a 10:15 showing on Wednesday at the Spectrum. We got there 2 hours early...plenty of time right? We'd be at the front of the line, right? Not even close!!! We were pretty much at the end of the line. But the cool and surprising thing was that they didn't keep us outside for 2 hours, they actually let us in the actually theater 2 hours ahead of time! Cool!!! We got decent seats....until some annoying guy sat next to me. Why was he annoying? Because he freaking reeked of BO, he freaking bounced his leg during the action sequences moving my seat as well, and he was a heavy breather...DAMMIT!
How was the movie? It was good, a little confusing, but still good. I bet you a lot of people were just going into this movie thinking it was just a straight action movie, but NO! this movie required listening and thinking! There were so many people in the theater scratching their heads, asking..."huh?!". I think I got the gist of the movie...kinda lost out when "the Oracle" was talking and "Agent Smith" was talking. Well, for all you that haven't watched it yet...MAKE SURE YOU STAY UNTIL THE END OF THE CREDITS!!! There is a trailer for The Matrix Revolutions!!!
So as we got out of the theaters around 1 in the morning, we walk outside and see 2 long ass lines still waiting to get in! And those lines were full of college students sporting their Greek or Asian Greek or UCI sweatshirts. Damn! I felt hella old. Old because they're gonna watch a late movie without having to worry about work the next day....and old because I swear they all looked like they were 16 or so, when they were probably 20-21...damn, I miss college...such is the life of Joe.
Matrix Reloaded
Let me start this off with: I'M WATCHING THE MATRIX RELOADED ON WEDNESDAY AT 10:15!!!! Hell yeah!!! I guess that the Spectrum had early night showings of The Matrix Reloaded! Only bad this is that I know we're gonna have to be there at least 2 hours early. Hopefully it doesn't rain tomorrow. Don't worry guys, I'll tell you all about it after I get back!
So I saw more footage of that High School hazing incident that happened last week. When I saw the first tape, I thought it wasn't so bad at all. I just thought that the Senior Girls were pouring flour, trash, and other stuff on the Junior Girls (a la "Dazed And Confused"). But I just saw this new tape, that shows some of the girls freaking kicking and punching girls in the head!!! And throwing buckets at them and stuff!!! Kuh-RAY-zeeee.
Anyone see SNL this past Saturday? I just wonder how it was...because the commercials for it were freaking hillarious. That dude from "The Pianist" was hosting and Tracy Morgan asks him what movie he was in. So the guy says "The Pianist"...and Tracy Morgan just immediately busts out in one of the funniest fake laughs ever!!! bah-HA-ha ha. HA! It was great!
So this section of todays entry is just to recommend some music out to you guys: (actually this is mostly for Jevon since he's steered me in the direction of a lot of good music)
- The Used this CD is awesome, it has that scream/sing vibe to it, so it might not appeal to you all. I didn't think I would like it since these guys are from Utah, and the radio plays some of their songs, and the lead singer went out with Kelly Osbourne (what the hell was he thinking???!!!!), but it's surprisingly good. If you haven't picked it up go out and get it!
- The Early November a new band on "Drive Thru Records". Check out the acoustic EP along with the electric on. Very nice
- Days Away
- The June Spirit too bad that they broke up....
hmmmm...I could've swore I had more bands to recommend, but the others like "Funeral For A Friend", "A Static Lullaby", and "The Beautiful Mistake" are a little more heavier/harder/screamier so they don't really have a mass appeal.
One more episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer left!!! I'm gonna be sad once it's over. It's one of the shows that I religiously watch, no matter what else is on. Tonight's episode was good, but I'm really hating the way that it might end next week...I really hope that it doesn't go down the way I'm thinking it is. Tomorrow is the last episode of Dawson's Creek. I remember when both Buffy and Dawson's first appreared on the brand new WB! network back in my Sophomore year. Damn, those were the days. Coming back home from class and crashing in the dorms to watch Dawson's and Buffy. Good times.
So I guess I'll have to settle for watching "Smallville", but I'm not complaining. Cause my girl, Kristen Kreuk, is on that show. So....is it wrong when I'm watching that show and Kristen is macking out with Tom Welling, for me to start moving my mouth in a kissing motion (a la Jay in "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" when he first sees Shannon Elizabeth's Justice)??? HA! Yeah, I wish. Such is the life of Joe...
Surfer Chicks
I have a new favorite show on MTV now that "Battle of the Sexes" is finished. Its called Surf Girls. Why do I like it? Because surfer chicks are soooooo hot!!! Remember, I'm the guy with Malia Jones in his NOC List. This show is freaking awesome. Surfer girls in the water, in bikinis. Mmmmm....thank you for this show. Hot chicks? I dig Kula, Vivian, and Aimee...just because I'm not really into blondes, and those girls are from Hawaii and Hawaiian girls are dope. Hawaiian girls that surf are awesome!!!! (case in point, Malia Jones).
So one day done, 4 more to go. And hopefully this week will go by really fast because Danielle has started working here!!! YAY!!! Its cool to have a friend there to talk to, even though we're usually too busy working. And this week I actually have some stuff planned to do unlike last weekend! First up on Saturday is going to San Diego for Cal. State San Marcos' graduation for "girlfriend's" graduation. I haven't seen "girlfriend" in a while so it'll be good to see her...and also finally meet her fiance (confused??? it makes sense to me). Then later that night is O-Sushi to celebrate Tricia and Joyce's birthdays. I can't wait until Saturday...and its only Monday!!! Hmmm...I was gonna write a lot more....but I forgot what it was..Such is the life of Joe...
Party Posse
Dude, this weekend was so freaking boring. James went up north to visit Ana, and Tommy went home to Cerritos. I should've expected it to be boring since it was Mother's Day weekened and everyone was pretty much at home spending time with family and stuff (or so I think). So my weekends, are usually just spent kicking it and doing nothing at home...but when no one is here, and I'm the only one in the apartment, its especially boring.
So Friday I just basically watched Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back as inspired by Jevon's blog. I was so freaking bored on Saturday though, that I decided to go shopping. Shopping doesn't sound so bad, right? Well, I didn't go to South Coast or any of the freaking local malls, I took the 45 minute drive down to Carlsbad to show at the Outlets there. I was planning on buying like 3 pairs of shoes, a couple nice shirts, and anything else that I might find. Too bad that none of the stores really had any shoes or clothes that I wanted. Dammit!!! So I spent 90 minutes driving back and forth from Carlsbad and probably 1 hour walking around the Outlet to buy one shirt from the Bananna Outlet.
Yeah, I didn't really mind the drive though. I like driving especially on nice days like Saturday. Driving 80 MPH with the windows down, cool air blowing, sun out, and John Mayer/Saves The Day blasting. I get home and do absolutely nothing at all for the next 8 hours or so. I go online hoping that someone is on, but eveyrone just has away messages. I freaking just sit in front of my computer for like 6 hours doing absolutely nothing. Fun, huh? I was flipping through the channels and came across TNN and there was this hilarrious TV show on! HA! It's on Saturdays at 9:00 and 9:30 and it's called "Most Extreme Elimination Challenge". I can't find a webpage for it, but here's a couple that describe it Link 1, Link 2. HA! It's basically this Japanese gameshow where the contestants are play these ridiculous and by the looks of it, painful games. HA HA HA!!!
I was ready to call it a night and do nothing and be bored for the night until Jevon saved me by telling me about his sister's dance troupe party at Naga's. I met up Jevon and Aileen there after trying to follow these messed up directions from both Yahoo Maps and Mapquest. The mapquest direction actually said something like: - 15: Keep LEFT at the fork in the ramp. 0.47 miles
- 16: Keep RIGHT at the fork in the ramp. 0.15 miles
- 17: Keep LEFT at the fork in the ramp. 0.25 miles
What kind of freaking directions are those???? We just chilled there for a bit, long enough for Aileen to eat half a bag of Lays, not just a regular bag but a Super Size bag! HA! So after chilling there, picking up Jovan, going to Yardhouse only to find it was closed, and going to Pothandle to eat only to find THAT closed! We ended the night at Denny's....1 hour at Naga's, and 45 minutes driving around = still a better time than sitting on my ass doing nothing bored at home. Thanks guys for getting me out of the house....such is the life of Joe
Happy Mother's Day
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!! So just for all those who've forgotten, today is Mother's Day. Make sure you do something nice for you Mom and let her know how much you appreicate her. Treat your mom especially nice on this day (but only on this day, the other 364 days you can be mean to her). Ummm....no, I'm just kidding. Such is the life of Joe...
Happy Belated BDay Dad!!!
Wow! What a coincidence!!! I just read lil Jay's blog and he mentioned that his Mom's birthday was yesterday, the 6th and she turned 61. Guess what? It was my Dad's birthday yesterday, the 6th, and he also turned 61! Yeah, I know that sounds really old, but like Jay, I dont' see Dad as a 61 year old, he's more like a forty or fifty year old. He still goes out and parties. I remember back in high school, that he'd be out later than I was!!! He used to come home like at 5 or 6 in the morning from playing Mah Jong! Its crazy! He starts like at 10 at night and doesn't come home until 6 in the morning. Its hillarious also seeing him drunk and singing karaoke with his friends and everything. He just loves that "magic mic" that James and I bought him for Christmas. He goes out to the Indian Gaming Casino's in Lemoore and is always going out with friends for Filam Association Dances adn everything. He is seriously always the life of the party telling jokes and dancing the night away. You'll seriously love my Dad if you ever meet him. I'm just happy that he's enjoying life and he's having a good time. I know, it's probably hard for him since he's pretty much all by himself up there in Tulare and we hardly visit him, so it's good to know that he's having a good time. Happy Birthday Dad!!!
Ok, so maybe I'm lying. Actually, my Tita Christie, Tito Nelson, and two little cousins, Jane and Star live up there in Tulare. And now add to that, my cousin Christopher from the PI. He just arrived this past weekend and now my Dad is talking about finding him a job and more importantly finding him a "nice girl". That means, finding Chris a girl that is an America citizen that he can marry so he can stay here. Yeah, I know its pretty common place, or just common talk, about relatives trying to find good American girls/boys for their nieces/nephews/cousins/sons/daughters to marry so they can live in the US (I remember Aileen talked about this in one of her blogs). And yeah, I think that's pretty weird and pretty sad. That sucks for the girl that he meets (if he does in fact meet a girl) because you know that the only reason that he's gonna like her is because she's a American citizen. So any of you girls wanna meet and possibly marry my cousin, Chris? Can I describe him? Not really since I haven't seen/talked to him in 13 years and even 13 years ago I never talked to him. HA! I'm such a good cousin. Oh well, whatever...such is the life of Joe...
TKB
"Alias" kicks so much ass. The season finale yesterday was just too awesome. You gotta love that show.
Damn you X2, you freaking got me back into comic books!!! Damn you!!!
The Matrix Reloaded comes out on Thursday. I want to watch it on Midnight at Wednesday but I think I have to go to work early on Thrusday so I'm not sure. Yeah, I'm excited about it. Probably a little more excited that I was for X2 (because I knew that The Matrix Reloaded had more action, thus its "R" rating). But the only thing that I know is gonna suck, is that you KNOW they're not gonna end it. You KNOW they're gonna leave it ending with a cliffhanger since The Matrix Revolution (Matrix 3) comes out in November. So we'll be wondeiring what's gonna happen for another 6 months before it gets resolved. Oh well, I'm still excited.
I worked out today as usual, but I actually decided to do some ab work today which isn't usual. So as I was doing my crunches next to the aerobics room, it so happened to have a TKB (turbo kick boxing) class in it. Let me tell you, some of those girls in there are fine! Yessir!!! It has also confirmed that I am an ass man as opposed to a boob man. Mmmmm....ass. I think I'm gonna start working out my abs more....especially when the TKB class is in session. Such is the life of Joe...
Shut Up Kelly Hu!!!
I swear I watched "X2" last night at midnight and not "Lizzie McGuire", really!!! Please believe me! Too bad they weren't showing "Lizzie McGuire" after "X2" (like around 2:30 am) cause I probably would've peeked in for a bit. Waiting in that long line really freaking sucked. But the highlight of the night (aside from the movie of course) was this group of high school kids dressed up as X-Men. They had cheesy costumes but they went all out like painting their skin blue or silver and actually getting a wheel chair for Professor X. There was Cyclops, Professor X, Wolverine, Sabertooth, Gambit, Nightcrawler, Colossus, and a couple girls (perhaps Jean Grey?). They totally stole the preshow because they were pretend fighting in front of the theater. Pretty damn hillarious...especially the Professor when he got knocked out of his wheel chair. The whole theater was just cheering them on. HA! GEEKS!
The one thing that I didn't like about X2 was that Lady Deathstrike aka Yuriko aka Kelly Hu talked WAY TOO MUCH. She couldn't shut up! Sure, its fine to have your lines but when you are talking in almost every scene you're in, that's way too much. But then again, it would be stupid if her only line was "what are you doing here?" to Mystique disguised as a janitor and the rest of the time she just stands there.
And yes, I'm down to watch X2 again (just not tonight). I remember that when I bought my "X-Men 1.5" DVD that inside was a free ticket to either "Daredevil" or "X2". Stupid me forgot to use the free ticket when I watched it last night. So stupid me has to use it and watch "X2" again...so I can use that free ticket but I'm not complaining because that movie kicks so much ass!!!...such is the life of Joe.
X2
Midnight showing of X2 tonight. How was the movie? It was awesome!!! AWESOME!! It was so much better than the first one. So much more action and for all you comic book geeks there are all these "cameos" of different characters and the building of different story lines that we're familiar with from the comics. Yeah, we watched the midnight showing and we got there like an hour fifteen before the start time. Plenty of time, right??? NO!!! The line was so freaking long!!! We were at the end of the line but we still managed to get decent seats off to the side. So moral of the story. If you're gonna watch "The Matrix Reloaded" on Wednesday at midnight...be there at least 2 hours early.
So you wanna know how dope the movie was? Here's a run down of the stuff I found cool:
spoilers:(highlight the next section to see)
Man, X2 was great! Seriously, it's like 100 times better than the first one! I need to watch it again!!! You think I'm going to spoil it for you guys??? HA! You're stupid. Watch it yourselves. I'm not so cruel as to spoil the movie for you. But I'm interested in how many of you guys actually highlighted this section before watching X2?
So my recommendations are to definitely watch "X2"..and don't forget to call me because I'm down to watch it again. Such is the life of Joe...
